    Knights Sacked!

News hot off the press that Matthew Knights has been given the sack and won't be their coach for the remaining two years of his contract. After just 3 seasons under the helm, he was given the news by Dave Evans and is thought to be given a pay out of $800k.

    What are your thoughts?

    Re: Knights Sacked!

Just updating the payout has risen to $1.1 million making it the biggest payout for an AFL coach in history. Essendon would be regretting re-signing him for the next two seasons. Ouch...

So here are the leading candidates for Knights' job.
    1. Mark Williams: Former Port Adelaide premiership coach for 11 years. Win/loss percentage of 56%
    2. Alan Richardson: Assistant coach for Essendon. Former recruiter for Collingwood and Western Bulldogs. Coached Coburg in the VFL
    3. Dean Laidley: Former North Melbourne coach from 2003 to 2009. Win loss ratio of 54%. Currently an assistant coach at Port Adelaide.
    4. Neale Daniher: Former Melbourne coach from 1998 to 2007. An Essendon hero and one of four twins. Not currently in the running for job.

So there are the leading candidates. Who do you think will get the job?

Betting markets have just been suspended on the Essendon coaching job, as there has been a massive plunge on James Hird to coach the Bombers, with thousands of dollars coming in over the last hour.

    Watch this space.

What about Bomber Thompson, is he a chance or is it just an ugly rumour?

Just watching On The Couch...Hird saying he's gone through the process, applied etc and is pretty confident.

I like the way he talks, he's extremely articulate and knows the game inside out. He'll get the job.

Am I the only one here who thinks this is one of the craziest decisions made by Essendon? Surely he would have to have Williams or Laidley by his side.

At least it is a good sign the tigers won't be the only ones fighting for the wooden spoon.

Totally agree Stan, don't understand the logic behind Essendon either. Hird hasn't served any kind of apprenticeship, he may of been a superstar as a player but coaching is a different story.

This is going to put Essendon back in further, have no idea what they are thinking.
