Geelong vs West Coast

I think this tip is quite obvious. There is no doubt that Geelong will win, it is just a question of by how much..? The Cats are unbeatable at Skilled Stadium and they face the Wooden Spooners, the West Coast Eagles. This fixture could not suit the Cats anymore! Being the last round before finals, an extra training run on a Saturday afternoon will be very beneficial for the Cats. West Coast showed signs of improvement last week vs North Melbourne, but lets face it, that game was in Perth and the Kangaroos are by no means anywhere near as good as Geelong. I dont expect the Cats to take their foot off the pedal, they will be looking for a big team confidence booster heading into September. With names such as Ling, Mackie and Ottens returning to the side, the Cats should give the Eagles an embarrassing good old fashioned thumping!

I like your thinking. I snapped up West Coast to be the lowest scoring team of the round @ $3.25 when betting opened. Now they are into $2.60. Dont mind that high/low double....without Brown I cant see the Lions scoring high but I still think the Eagles will be the lowest scoring team

Hawthorn vs Collingwood

Without Luke Hodge in their side this week, I find it hard to see the Hawks winning this one. Their is no doubt that Hodge is the spiritual leader of the Hawks and when he fires, the whole team fires. If the Hawks are going to be any chance this week, they need the likes of Burgoyne, Mitchell, Sewell, Rioli and Franklin to fire. The Hawks smashed the Dockers last week but I dont think they will take much out of the game. Sure, a 100+ point win is going to boost a teams confidence but lets face it, the Box Hill Hawks probably could have beaten Freo's side last week. Collingwood was lucky to come away with a win against the Crows last week. They were outplayed for 3.5 quarters but were classy enough in the end to secure the 4 points and a top spot on the AFL ladder. The Pies lose Didak this week, however I still feel that they have the depth to cover the Hawks. The inexperienced backline off the Hawks will be put under fierce pressure and it will be interesting to see how they cope. I just wreckon the Pies will be too good, but not by much!

Adelaide vs St. Kilda

The Crows showed some good signs last week against the high-flying pies. They dominated for most of the game but were just pipped in the last quarter. I think they would have taken alot of confidence out of last week and they will be very hungry for a win this weekend in Adelaide. It is going to be a big day for the Adelaide Football Club as they farewell some of their greatest players in the clubs history. The Saints were not very convincing last week against Richmond. While the Tigers did play some pretty good footy, the Saints just seemed slow and dis-interested. The Saints boast a decent record at AAMI against the Crows, however I think that the Crows are due for a win. They beat Geelong at AAMI earlier in the season and I can see another upset on the cards here. A very important day for the club and there is no doubt that Neil Craig will have the boys fired up!

Western Bulldogs vs Essendon

This game I tip as the upset of the round. Both teams have struggled for form recently and a number of injuries to key players will make the game very interesting. The Bulldogs have struggled to play consistent footy in the past few weeks and they have not established themselves as serious premiership contenders yet. The Bulldogs will suffer greatly due to injuries sustained last week by Cooney, Johnson and Dale Morris. The Bombers on the other hand were beaten pretty easily by the Lions. So why am I tipping them? In the last quarter, the Bombers showed some signs of their natural running game that they played with earlier in the season. The Bombers have nothing to lose this week and they face a Bulldogs outfit that will be questioning their chances to make it all the way this year. If the Bombers can bring their A game, which is to run hard and take the game on, I can see them getting close in this game. Thats why I am tipping an upset (also because I am 2 behind the leader in footy tips and I need upsets to win anyway!)

Brisbane vs Sydney

The Lions played some pretty decent footy last week against the Bombers. They were due for a win and their is no doubt that Voss would have been relieved that they finally won another game. No Johnathon Brown this week will make it very tough for the Lions. We saw last week just how much of an impact he has on his team mates, and without him the Lions will struggle. Mitch Clark has been their main tall option down forward in the last few weeks (excpet last week with Brown) and if he doesnt kick a bag, I dont know where the Lions goals will come from. The Swans have been in good form, winning their last 3 games against top 8 sides: Bulldogs, Freo and Hawthorn. Adam Goodes has been in great form and youngster Dan Hannebry has proven why he was taken as a 17 year old! I expect to see a pretty boring game but I think that the Swans will get over the line in a close encounter.
